End-to-end protection for healthcare

Alabama Cancer Care recently used a mixture of Synology products and services to implement a centralized backup plan for 10 physical servers, 30 virtual machines, and over 250 Microsoft 365 accounts. ALCC was working with many terabytes of data collected from 15 different locations across the state, and was required to be HIPAA compliant.

In the end, ALCC chose to back up their data using Synology, saving them about 20 hours a month in maintenance and over $6,500 a year in subscription fees. Continue reading or click the link below to learn more!

Virtual machine backup

ALCC needed a simple and cost-effective way to back up 10 physical servers and 30 virtual machines. Using Active Backup, an endpoint data protection software available license-free through Synology, ALCC was able to meet all necessary criteria. 

Microsoft 365 backup

In addition to the servers and virtual machines, ALCC needed to back up 250 Microsoft 365 accounts, complete with employee emails, contacts, calendars, and OneDrive data. Luckily, Synology offers backup software that easily integrates with Microsoft 365 accounts, and comes with de-duplication technology, saving storage space occupied by redundant data.

Offsite secondary backup

For full data redundancy, ALCC also needed a secondary, offsite backup. They chose C2 Storage, Synology’s cloud storage solution that backs up data directly from a Synology NAS device. In order to assure compliance with privacy regulations, all data coming from the NAS is encrypted before backing up to the cloud, and Synology signed a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with ALCC.
